The International Women’s Group (IWG) Hosts Walkathon for Breast Cancer Awareness at Boulevard Park
In an inspiring show of support for breast cancer awareness, the International Women’s Group (IWG) held a vibrant walkathon at Boulevard Park on Sunday, 20 October 2024, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds to raise awareness about breast cancer. The event was part of the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of early detection and supporting the fight against the disease.
Participants were welcomed with brochures and gifts from medical centers and participating companies, promoting breast health education. The event commenced with a warm welcome from IWG President Polina Dalmini, spouse of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Eswatini, followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Ambassadors of Turkey and UN Habitat.
Dr. Hessa Al-Shaheen from the National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN) delivered a compelling speech on the importance of regular screenings and early detection, stressing, “Breast cancer touches many lives, but early detection and regular check-ups can make all the difference.”
A touching survivor story was shared with the attendees, followed by a lively Q&A contest led by Mrs. Dalmini, which engaged participants with key facts about breast cancer.
Before concluding the program, Mrs. Dalmini distributed nine shields to honor the contributors and partners whose support was instrumental in making the event possible. She expressed her gratitude to all involved including
Ebtisama Clinic, Al-Sanabel Althahabeyah; Lulu Hypermarket, Sweet & More Company and Caffeine, saying:
“Thank you for being part of this important cause. Together, we can raise awareness, support those fighting, and work towards a future where no one has to battle breast cancer alone.”
Trainer and breathing specialist, Yasmeen Alabduljader then led a warm-up session before the walk began. At 10:30 AM, after a group photo, the participants embarked on either a 1-kilometer or 2-kilometer walk, with a golf cart available for those needing assistance.
The event was a powerful reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness and the role of early detection. Thanks to the support from the community and sponsors such as CAN and Warba Medical Supplies Company, the IWG walkathon was a testament to the unity and strength of women working together for a healthier future.
