International Women’s Group Visit Failaka Island

3 April 2019: On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters organized a leisure trip for the ladies of the International Women’s Group. The members gathered at the Marina Crescent to take the ferry and start an interestingly enjoyable journey. As soon as they boarded, the ship’s captain welcomed the members of the group and their trip to island discovery started.

The history of the Kuwaiti Island, Failaka, dates back to 3000 BC. It is believed that the Greeks were the first to inhabit this island and established a civilization parallel to the Dilmun civilization in Bahrain. During the period of trade between China and India, Failaka was strategically one of the most famous historical islands in Kuwait; it is the island that combines the ancient and modern history of Kuwait. The island is rich in cultural landmarks from various ages, specifically from the end of the third millennium BC until modern times. IWG members enjoyed the cruise and took plenty of memorable pictures.

The tour included historical, archaeological and touristic facilities on the island. IWG members explored the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Palace Museum, some remains of ancient villages, walls and castles built by many civilizations, some old buildings and museums displaying antiques, monuments, equipment and coins of which some date back to the third millennium BC.

The ladies enjoyed visiting several restaurants that serve different cuisines ranging from tradition Kuwaiti to a wide selection of Mediterranean dishes. They also explored several hotel and resorts known to be the go-to places for visitors and tourists that aim to have a relaxing time while feasting their eyes on the beautiful sunsets by the clear beaches.

At the end of the tour, the members thanked the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters and expressed their happiness with participating in this special journey.
